History of Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel tower is considered as the signature element of Paris city. It took a long time for the French to fall in love with the legendary structure produced by Gustave Eiffel which became an iconic tower around the globe. It was no less than a wonder in the history of construction, especially in construction with iron.
Eiffel Tower was built for the purpose of entrance gateway to the international Exposition in the year of 1889.It was built to honour the centenary of the French Revolution and to showcase France's industrial expertise to the world. Its design is credited to two senior engineers Maurice Koechlin and Emile Noguier. It was conceived after debate over a suitable centre for the proposed Exposition Universelle of 1889, to celebrate the “centennial of the French Revolution”. “Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel” who was born on 15 December 1832 was the civil French engineer behind this master class piece of art. Eiffel started the construction of the tower. Due to his efforts and skills and the making of the tower not only did the tower bear his name but he also got the nickname of “magician of iron”.
There was very little development going on until 1886 when Jules Grevy was re-elected as president of France and during that reign the Eiffel design got its attention during the exposition of centrepiece celebration. So, a commission was made to monitor the plans of Eiffel and those of its rivals. More than 100 plans were submitted for the consideration. After a month of review when all plans were analysed only Eiffel’s scheme was accepted while others were termed as impractical or having vagueness in their plans. After accepting the Eiffel scheme the next decision was the location on which tower is to be made. The height of the Eiffel Tower made of iron is 1063 ft tall. The Eiffel tower is considered one of the masterpieces in the construction industry made on “Parisian land”. Perhaps that’s the start for Paris to become the leader in the fashion, modernization and luxurious renovation industry.
